John was elected to his first term as Mayor in 2002. His portfolio assignments include:

Warford is also an orthodontist, cattleman, and past president of the North Dakota Dental Association. He served on the Bismarck Airport Planning Committee and the University of Mary Executive Operations Committee of the Emerging Leaders in Health Care.

John and his wife Jenny have four children and have lived in Bismarck since 1973.
